Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team earned their 14th win of the season with a home victory over Oglethorpe earlier tonight.
Tonight's victory marks the fourth straight win for the Majors, as they now move to 14-8 on the year. Millsaps outscored Oglethorpe 14-4 in the second quarter to take the lead – and never looked back. The Stormy Petrels would threaten with several runs in the second half, but Millsaps held on to win 51-40. Tonight's matchup also sets up the final three regular season games for the Majors, all of which will be played at the Hangar Dome.
After a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Majors took a double-digit halftime lead due to effective team defense. Millsaps forced nine turnovers in the first half while also holding Oglethorpe to 23% (6-26) shooting from the field and 0-5 shooting on three pointers.
Millsaps went 7-22 from the field in the first half while also going 4-8 on three pointers to take a 10-point halftime lead.
The Majors never relinquished the halftime lead despite the comeback effort from Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels brought the contest to a five-point game with 5:25 left in regulation.
Millsaps, however, responded by finishing the game on a 7-1 run to seal the victory.
Senior
Miah Brooks led the Majors by nearly earning another double-double. Brooks finished with 13 points and eight rebounds by going 5-8 from the field and 3-4 on free throws.
Katie Connor also totaled nine points as the Majors finished 12-44 (27%) from the field and 6-13 (46%) on three pointers.
Millsaps will look to close out the weekend with another conference game played at the Hangar Dome. Next up for the Millsaps Women's Basketball Team is a matchup against Berry this Sunday, Feb. 14th. Tip off against the Vikings is set for 1:00 pm.
