Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Continues Win Streak with Strong Defensive Effort

Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Women's Basketball Team continued their winning streak with a conference victory over Berry earlier today.

Today's win marks the fifth straight for the Majors, as they outscored Berry 58-46.  The Majors earned the weekend sweep with back-to-back double-digit wins Friday and Sunday as well.  Millsaps played effective team defense to never trail in today's contest.  Not only did the Majors hold Berry under 30% from the field and on three pointers, but they also forced 18 Vikings turnovers.  Keyerra Jordan scored a season high 14 points as the Majors earn their 15th win of the year.

Millsaps started the game fast on a 12-3 run.  Berry, however, answered by scoring six unanswered points to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Millsaps again extended their lead to double digits, but a pair of Viking free throws ended the first half scoring with Millsaps leading 28-20.  After the intermission, Berry came out fast by tying the game 32-32 with 5:10 left in the third quarter.

Millsaps retook the lead by scoring six unanswered points, but Berry still threatened by only trailing 38-34 headed to the final quarter.  Millsaps continued to hold off the Vikings until a 7-2 run midway through the fourth quarter expanded the Majors' lead.

From there, Millsaps never looked back by making their remaining free throws to close out the game – securing their 15th win of the year.

Freshman Keyerra Jordan led the Majors with 14 points while Miah Brooks again scored in the double digits with 11.  Kala-Jewel Freeman totaled 10 points while Kim Klunk earned a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds (four offensive, 10 defensive).

In shooting totals, the Majors went 16-47 from the field and 3-16 on three pointers while the impressive defensive performance held Berry to just 28% shooting on field goals and three pointers.  Millsaps also outscored Berry for points in the paint (22-18), points off turnovers (18-13) and second chance points (9-7).

Now at 15-8, the red hot Majors have won their last five games by at least two scores.  Millsaps Women's Basketball will look to continue the positive win streak with the final series of regular season games at home next weekend.

Next up for Women's Basketball is a matchup against Hendrix this Friday, Feb. 19th.  Tip off against the Warriors from the Hangar Dome is set for 6:00 pm.
