Box Score Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Baseball Team dropped their final game of the weekend against LaGrange earlier today by a score of 5-4.
Today's contest, which featured a rematch from earlier in the weekend, closed out the final day of the Millsaps Invitational. Four teams competed at Twenty Field this weekend, as the Majors fall to 2-4 on the young season. LaGrange moves to 4-3 after scoring three runs in the top of the fifth to earn the win.
The Panthers got the scoring started early with a pair of sacrifice RBIs in the first and second inning. Millsaps, however, responded by scoring four unanswered runs to take the lead.
After a walk in the bottom of the second,
Lee Ogletree moved to second on a
Jacob Mardick single down the left field line. Following Mardick's single, a
Seth Trulock walk loaded the bases.
A fielding error by the Panthers,
Drew Wray sacrifice fly and
Logan Patterson RBI single gave the Majors their first lead of the day. The positive second saw Millsaps score three runs on two hits.
The Majors expanded on the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an
Andy Page triple that scored
Logan Patterson. LaGrange, however, answered in the following inning with an RBI double, RBI ground out and RBI single.
Neither team scored again after the Panthers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Millsaps had a chance to tie with the top of the order due up in the bottom of the ninth, but LaGrange held on to seal the win.
Logan Patterson led the Majors with two hits and an RBI.
Andy Page,
Chase Callaway and
Drew Wray all earned an RBI with one hit each.
Jacob Mardick also earned a hit as the Majors finished the game with four runs on seven hits and one error.
Millsaps will look to rebound with another weekend tournament. The Majors travel to Demorest, Georgia this weekend for play in the 2016 Piedmont College Early Spring Classic.
Next up for the Majors is a neutral site matchup against Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch against the Marlins is set for this Friday, Feb. 19th at 3:00 pm.
