Baseball: Millsaps Defeats York with Late Comeback Effort

Box Score Demorest, GA – The Millsaps Baseball Team earned their third win of the year with a comeback victory over York College earlier today.

Today's contest continues play in the 2016 Piedmont College Early Spring Classic, as the Majors earned their first win of the weekend.  York led through the first five frames, but a four-run sixth and three-run seventh gave Millsaps the lead and eventual comeback win.  Pitcher Daniel Adams earns the win for Millsaps and improves to 1-0 on the year.

After a three-up, three-down top of the fourth, Isaac Glenn reached first base on a lead off single.  Two passed balls later, Glenn scored giving the Majors their first score of the day.

Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Millsaps began a four-run rally.  Glenn again got things started by reaching second on back-to-back errors.  Following a Brennan Ducote single to left field, Glenn advanced to third.  Joseph Stearns then hit a sacrifice RBI to score Glenn – and the rally was on.

A Drew Wray two RBI triple scored Brett Perry and Brennan Ducote to finish the positive fourth with four runs on three hits.  York College, however, answered with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Trailing by a run at the seventh inning stretch, the Majors began another comeback effort.  Andy Page, Jimmy Fondren and Brennan Ducote each hit a single to load the bases with only one out.

From there, Joseph Stearns scored Page on a sacrifice fly out to right field.  Chase Callaway then reached first on an error, which scored Fondren giving the Majors the lead.  A Drew Wray RBI single increased the Millsaps lead by two runs, 8-6.

Wray's RBI finished the scoring for the Majors, as Daniel Adams closed out the game pitching two scoreless innings.

Overall, the Majors scored eight runs on 10 hits and one error while York finished with six runs on 11 hits and four errors.  Andy Page led Millsaps with three hits while Drew Wray led in RBIs with three.  Joseph Stearns also recorded two RBIs as well.

Daniel Adams earns the win with two hits and no runs in 10 batters faced.  The Majors improve to 3-5 after today's back and forth contest and will face Peidmont tomorrow for the final day of the Early Spring Classic.

First pitch against the Lions from Loudermilk Field is set for tomorrow, Feb. 21st at 4:00 pm EST.
