Box Score Demorest, GA – The Millsaps Baseball Team fell in their final game of the weekend to Piedmont by a score of 8-5.
Today's contest was cut short in the seventh inning due to inclement weather as the Majors closed out play for the 2016 Piedmont College Early Spring Classic. Tied 2-2 after the first frame, Piedmont scored four unanswered runs en route to an 8-5 victory. The loss drops Millsaps to 3-6 on the year while Piedmont improves to 6-2.
In the first inning, a pair of walks and
Andy Page single loaded the bases with no outs.
Brennan Ducote then allowed the Majors to strike first with an RBI single, which scored
Cavan Breland. From there,
Chase Callaway scored Page on a sacrifice RBI to left field.
The Majors started the game with two runs on two hits to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Piedmont, however, responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game 2-2. The Lions then took the lead with a four run second inning – and never looked back.
The Majors added a pair of runs in the third when a
Seth Trulock two RBI double scored
Brennan Ducote and
Isaac Glenn. Millsaps would make the contest a one run game with Glenn scoring
Cavan Breland on an RBI single in the fourth, but Piedmont again answered by extending their lead with a run.
Neither team scored in the fifth as the looming inclement weather began to take its toll on the game. After Piedmont scored another in the bottom of the sixth, both head coaches met with the umpires to determine the status of the contest.
With the bad weather in play, the game was called in the seventh, leaving Piedmont the victor.
Seth Trulock led the Majors with two RBIs while
Brennan Ducote and
Isaac Glenn each earned one as well. Cavan Breeland,
Andy Page, Glenn and Ducote all led in hits with two each.
The Majors will look to rebound as they return home for a non-conference matchup this Tuesday. Local rival Belhaven travels to Twenty Field for the first of three games between the two teams this season.
First pitch against the Blazers is set for this Tuesday, Feb. 23rd at 6:00 pm.
