Box Score Montgomery, AL - The Millsaps Baseball Team fell in Opening Day action to Randolph-Macon by a score of 9-8.
Today's game began the Firehouse Classic hosted by Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. After a 3-3 tie in the first inning, the Yellow Jackets scored six unanswered runs to win their first game of the season. The Majors mounted a comeback by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth and another in the sixth, but eventually fell short with eight runs on 14 hits.
Randolph-Macon started the game fast with three quick runs on three hits to hold an early 3-0 lead. The Majors, however, answered with a
Seth Trulock sacrifice RBI and
Brennan Ducote triple to tie the game 3-3.
In the top of the second, Randolph-Macon added another four runs on five hits. Following the Yellow Jackets at-bat, the Majors had runners in scoring position with one out, but a fly out to center field and ground out to second base sent the game to the top of the third with Millsaps trailing 7-3.
The Yellow Jackets added their ninth run of the game in the third inning - and never looked back.
Millsaps began the comeback in the bottom of the fourth when
Logan Patterson scored on a wild pitch and
Lee Ogletree and
Seth Trulock hit RBI singles. The Majors productive fourth totaled four runs on three hits with one left on base.
Trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the sixth, the Majors scored their final run of the game on an
Isaac Glenn RBI single that scored
Andy Page. Following Glenn's double, the Yellow Jackets forced three quick outs to head to the seventh inning.
In the final three innings, both team's bullpens went to work, but the Majors could not overcome the early deficit to eventually fall 9-8. Starting pitcher
Daniel Ross falls to 0-1 on the early season while Tanner Phillips earns the win for the Yellow Jackets.
Right Fielder
Seth Trulock led the Majors with three RBIs going 4-6 while designated hitter
Brennan Ducote had two RBIs by going 2-4.
Cavan Breland and
Brennan Ducote also went 2-4 while
Logan Patterson went 1-2 with an RBI as well.
The Majors will look to rebound tomorrow against Southwestern (TX) as play in the Firehouse Classic continues. First pitch from Montgomery, Alabama against the Pirates is set for 5:00 pm.
