Box Score Montgomery, AL - The Millsaps Baseball Team earned their first win of the season with a 11-7 victory over Southwestern (TX).
The Majors continued play in the Firehouse Classic held in Montgomery, Alabama earlier today with the nonconference matchup against the Pirates. After an early 6-2 deficit, the Majors rallied in the sixth inning to take the lead - and eventually earn their first win of the young season.
With the score tied 1-1 after two frames, the Pirates took the lead with a three-run, fourth inning. Trailing 5-1, the Majors added a run on an
Isaac Glenn RBI double to left center, which scored
Andy Page.
Southwestern added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with an unearned run, which made the score 6-2. From there, the Majors sparked a comeback rally that changed the momentum of the game.
Seth Trulock got things started for Millsaps with a walk and stolen base to put the Majors in scoring position with no outs.
Drew Wray then walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Another walk, this time for
Connor Woodall, loaded the bases - setting up
Cavan Breland with an opportune at-bat for the Majors.
Breland delivered with an RBI single to left field, which scored Trulock.
Andy Page and
Isaac Glenn then singled to score Wray and Woodall. With the rally in full motion, the Majors finally retook the lead when
Lee Ogletree scored Breland on an RBI single up the middle.
When the smoke settled from the sixth inning rally, the Majors totaled six runs on five hits to take their first lead of the game. Holding an 8-6 lead, the Majors only allowed one hit in the final three innings to secure the win.
Millsaps added three more insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings as they now move to 1-1 on the year. Majors' pitcher
Kenny Wright earns the win with five innings pitched giving up three hits and two runs.
Lee Ogletree led the Majors with four hits and three RBIs in six at-bats while
Isaac Glenn totaled three hits with two RBIs. The Majors totaled 11 runs on 15 hits for the contest, as they will look to close out the weekend with a winning record tomorrow.
The final matchup of the Firehouse Classic for the Majors is set for tomorrow against Huntingdon. First pitch against the Hawks is set for 1:00 pm from Montgomery, Alabama.
