Box Score 2 Danville, KY – The Millsaps Baseball Team split a pair of games with Centre College in a double-header matchup earlier today.
Friday's games, which were moved due to inclement weather, began a three-game series with the Colonels. Millsaps earned a convincing 14-3 win in game one, but Centre answered with a walk off RBI in the bottom of the seventh to split the day's contests.
Centre earned the game two victory by scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh. Millsaps held a 2-0 lead after the first frame with an RBI single by
Lee Ogletree.
Isaac Glenn also scored on an error by the Colonels, as the Majors held an early lead.
The Colonels tied the game with a run in the fourth and sixth innings, but the Majors responded with a double by
Andy Page in the top of the seventh to lead 3-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Centre scored twice on a pair of RBI singles to retake the lead – and earn the 4-3 victory.
Andy Page led the Majors with an RBI and two hits while
Isaac Glenn,
Lee Ogletree,
Connor Woodall and
Logan Patterson all recorded a hit each. Millsaps finished the second game with three runs on six hits and three errors while the Colonels scored four runs on 11 hits and one error.
Despite the close second game loss, the Majors began the day with an impressive 14-3 victory.
Millsaps led throughout the contest to earn the 11-run win, as six different Majors recorded at least one RBI.
Wes Lassere, who led the Majors going 4-6 for the game, got things started on a two RBI single in the first inning. Lassere's single scored
Drew Wray and
Andy Page and gave the Majors an early 2-0 lead.
In the third,
Lee Ogletree added to the lead with a two-run homer to left center. Ogletree's two-run shot would be all the runs Millsaps needed for a win as
Greg Matthews and the Majors' defense held Centre to just three runs on six hits.
The Majors extended their lead in the top of the fourth with five runs on four hits. Another error by Centre allowed
Andy Page to reach first, scoring
Seth Trulock, followed by a wild pitch that scored
Logan Patterson.
Wes Lassere recorded another RBI, this time on a single to left field, which scored
Andy Page. Lassere was later caught stealing, but not before
Drew Wray scored to give Millsaps a 9-0 lead.
Centre would score their first run of the day in the fifth, but Millsaps continued the relentless offensive attack with three more runs in the sixth. An RBI double by
Drew Wray,
Lee Ogletree sacrifice RBI and
Cavan Breland RBI single gave the Majors a 12-1 advantage.
In the ninth,
Drew Wray recorded an RBI single followed by an
Isaac Glenn ground out that scored
Logan Patterson for two extra insurance runs.
Hayden Williams and the Majors' defense then closed out the game forcing a double play and strike out to leave Millsaps the victor, 14-3.
Lee Ogletree and
Wes Lassere led in RBIs with three while
Drew Wray recorded two.
Cavan Breland,
Seth Trulock and
Isaac Glenn each earned an RBI as well.
Drew Wray led in hits with five while Lassere finished close behind with four.
For pitching,
Greg Matthews earns the win giving up two earned runs on six hits in 6.2 innings. Matthews also recorded seven strikeouts while
Hayden Williams closed the game giving up no hits and no runs with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
Overall, Millsaps finished the first game with 14 runs on 17 hits and three errors.
Now at 7-8, the Millsaps Baseball Team will look to earn the series win in a rubber match tomorrow. First pitch for the final game of the weekend is set for tomorrow, March 12th at 1:00 pm CST.
