Box Score 2 Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Baseball Team improved to 10-9 on the year splitting a double-header with Rhodes on Saturday.
After falling 2-0 in the first game, the Majors responded with a 4-1 win later in the day. Junior second baseman
Logan Patterson led the Majors in hits with three on the day while pitcher
Daniel Adams improves to 2-1 with the game two win. Millsaps also improves to 5-3 in conference play with the game two, 4-1 win.
Rhodes secured the game one win, as starting pitcher Dan Morris pitched a complete game giving up no runs and four hits. Millsaps starting pitcher
Greg Matthews kept the Majors in the game giving up one earned run and six hits while striking out four batters in eight innings pitched.
The Majors would threaten several times throughout the contest, but eventually fell 2-0. Rhodes scored once in the first and again in the eight to earn the win.
Logan Patterson led the Majors in hits with two for the first game of the day.
In the second game, the Majors responded by scoring an early pair of runs in the first and second innings.
Logan Patterson got things started with a lead off single to center field. Following the leadoff hit,
Cavan Breland reached first on a fielder's choice then stole second.
With a runner in scoring position,
Brennan Ducote stepped up for an opportune at-bat. Ducote delivered with an RBI double through the left side.
Isaac Glenn kept the positive momentum going with a hard hit single to the shortstop. Following Glenn's single, Majors' designated hitter
Wes Lassere scored Ducote on a RBI groundout to short.
A fly out ended the positive first, as the Majors scored two runs on three hits to hold an early 2-0 lead.
Daniel Adams and the Majors' defense then forced a three-up-three-down top of the second. From there, Millsaps extended the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
An
Andy Page double to left field got things started, as he later stole third to give the Majors an opportune scoring chance. Page crossed home plate on a well-placed sacrifice bunt via
Drew Wray. Wray's RBI increased the lead 3-0, as
Brennan Ducote continued the positive momentum with an RBI to right field.
Ducote's RBI scored Patterson and ended the scoring on the day for Millsaps. In all the Majors scored two runs on three hits in the positive second to take a 4-0 lead – and never looked back.
Rhodes added a run in the sixth, but
Zack Borne and the Majors' defense closed out the game in the seventh to earn the 4-1 win. Ducote led the Majors with two RBIs while
Wes Lassere and
Drew Wray earned one each.
Ducote also led in hits with two, as
Isaac Glenn,
Andy Page, Cavan Breeland and
Logan Patterson totaled one apiece for the second game. Starting pitcher
Daniel Adams earned the game two win giving up one earned run on five hits in five innings pitched.
Now at 10-9 and 5-3 in conference play, the Majors will look to win the series tomorrow, March 20th in a rubber match at Twenty Field. First pitch against the Lynx is set for noon.
