Box Score 2 Birmingham, AL – The Millsaps Baseball team fell in the final day of a three-game series with Birmingham Southern by scores of 4-2 and 3-1.
The Majors fell in Saturday's double-header series finale, as the number three ranked Panthers (d3baseball.com) improve to 20-6 (9-3) with the pair of wins. The Majors drop to 12-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
Isaac Glenn had the RBIs for Millsaps with a single up the middle in game one that scored
Logan Patterson and
Chase Callaway.
For the first game of the day, the Majors were held to two runs on six hits and three errors while the Panthers totaled four runs on six hits and one error. Millsaps took a 2-1 lead with a two-run third, but the Panthers responded scoring three unanswered runs to eventually secure a 4-2 win.
Logan Patterson and
Isaac Glenn led in hits for Millsaps with two each, as Glenn also recorded the two RBI single. The Majors would threaten several times, but the top ranked Panthers pitched a completed game to secure the win.
In the second game, (which due to double-header rules was played to seven innings) the Majors were held to one run on four hits and two errors. The Panthers again pitched a complete game, as Millsaps fell behind early.
After trailing 1-0 in the second, Millsaps answered with a run in the third on a passed ball. The positive third started with a
Connor Woodall double to left center field. From there,
Drew Wray singled through the right side. A wild pitch advanced Wray and Woodall to second and third, as
Isaac Glenn was intentionally walked to load the bases.
A passed ball allowed Woodall to cross home plate – giving the Majors their first run of the game. In all, Millsaps tied the game in the positive third with one run on two hits.
Birmingham Southern, however, answered by retaking the lead in the bottom half of the inning – and never looked back. The Panthers finished the game with two unanswered runs to eventually earn the 3-1 win.
Drew Wray led the second game in hits with two while
Lee Ogletree and
Connor Woodall both recorded one each. Reliever
Kenny Wright pitched three scoreless innings while striking out three batters in the second game as well.
Now at 12-12, the Majors will look to rebound with a pair of midweek non-conference home games next week. The Millsaps Baseball team will continue the three-game series with local rival Belhaven for two games starting Tuesday, March 29th.
The Majors and Blazers will play Tuesday and Wednesday to close out their regular season series, as both contests will be played Twenty Field. First pitch against Belhaven is set for this Tuesday, March 29th at 6:00 pm.
