A half hour later, the Majors and Stormy Petrels took the field for the second contest of Saturday's double-header. The second game would only last seven innings due to double-header rules as well.
The Majors got things started fast with a leadoff single by
Drew Wray.
Andy Page reached on a fielder's choice, followed by an
Isaac Glenn single. With runners in scoring position,
Lee Ogletree gave the Majors an early lead for the second straight game.
This time, Ogletree hit a well-placed double down the left field line to score Glenn and Page, giving the Majors a 2-0 lead. In all, Millsaps scored two runs on four hits and one error in the posititve first inning.
Thanks to some excellent defense and solid pitching, neither team would score again until the fourth.
Connor Woodall doubled down the left field line to get things started in the top half of the inning. Following the double,
Joseph Stearns recorded his first RBI of the day on a single to center field - giving the Majors a 3-0 lead.
Oglethorpe added their first run of the game in the following inning, closing the gap to two runs. Millsaps, however, extended the lead on a
Brennan Ducote sacrifice bunt that scored
Lee Ogletree in the fifth.
The Stormy Petrels again added a run in the bottom half of the inning to trail 4-2 heading to the sixth.
The Majors would threaten in the top of the sixth with a runner at third, but a ground out and fly out ended the scoring chance. From there, the Stormy Petrels took their first lead of the game. Oglethorpe scored on a sacrifice fly and two RBI single to take the lead - despite only recording one hit in the three-run sixth.
Down to their final three outs trailing 5-4, the Majors put on the rally caps and went to work in the seventh.
Lee Ogletree again got things started by reaching first on a throwing error by Oglethorpe. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch, putting the Majors in position to tie the game.
Oglethorpe, however, forced consecutive strikeouts to increase the pressure and intensity in the final inning. Down to their last out, the Majors called upon freshman
Connor Woodall.
With ice in his veins, Woodall delivered on a clutch, game-tying RBI single that scored Ogletree. Woodall then stole second as
Jacob Mardick stepped in to pinch-hit.
Mardick walked, but not before Woodall advanced to third on another Oglethorpe wild pitch. With runners on the corners,
Logan Patterson stepped up to bat. With a potential series split and first conference win of the season just 90 feet away, Patterson delivered on a single to left field.
As Woodall crossed home plate the Majors completed the two-run comeback rally to lead 6-5 in the seventh. Only needing three outs for a win,
Chris Guerin stepped in to pitch for Millsaps.
A ground out got things started, but Oglethorpe would threaten with a single to center field. From there, Guerin and the Majors' defense closed out the game to secure the 6-5 victory.
Kenny Wright improves to 2-0 on the year while
Chris Guerin records his first save of the season in the comeback win. After Millsaps ceded the lead in the sixth, the Majors responded with two runs on two hits in the final inning - all with two outs on the board.
Lee Ogletree led in RBIs with two while
Wes Lassere,
Connor Woodall and
Logan Patterson all led in hits with two each.
Now at 5-7 on the year, the Majors will look to continue the positive momentum with another game in Atlanta. Millsaps and Oglethorpe will close out the series in a rubber match tomorrow. First pitch from Anderson Field at Hermance Stadium is set for 11:00 AM CST.
