Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Volleyball team recently hosted the annual Spring Tournament here at Millsaps College for a day of tournament play.
The Spring Tournament, held at the Hangar Dome, featured six teams from around the region in a round robin style competition. The Majors went 3-1 on the day, as they will look to use the positive momentum from the weekend moving into the regular season next fall.
"Overall it was a successful day," Head Volleyball Coach
Jaime Fisher said. "I was very proud of my team for how hard they played."
The Majors hosted the Spring Tournament after a successful season where they made an appearance in the SAA semifinals and had an All-Region selection, Defensive Player of the Year, 2nd Team All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention selections in 2015.
Millsaps began the day with a contest against Loyola New Orleans. The Majors later faced Union University before closing out the day with local matches against Mississippi College and Belhaven.
"The girls stepped up," Coach Fisher said. "Although some had to play in positions they never played, they showed great determination and pride and did what Millsaps Volleyball does best, which is play hard."
The Majors gained a great deal of experience from the weekend where they earned three hard-fought victories.
"We beat Mississippi College, Loyola, and Belhaven," Coach Fisher said. "Our loss on the day was to Union, but the girls played hard and the scores were very close so I was proud of the effort."
The Millsaps Volleyball team will look to use the momentum from the weekend moving forward, as regular season play for the 2016 season begins next fall.
