Conway, AR – The Millsaps Baseball team fell to Hendrix by a score of 7-4 in the final day of a three-game road series.
Millsaps led twice in Sunday's contest, but the Warriors answered both times en route to the three-run victory. Hendrix gained a great deal of momentum from starting pitcher Daniel Imbro's complete game. Overall, the Majors totaled four runs on 12 hits while the Warriors scored seven runs on 10 hits.
With the loss, the Majors fall to 19-19 on the year and 12-9 in conference play. The Warriors, who secured the second seed for the conference tournament, improve to 21-71 and 13-8.
Millsaps took an early lead in the first when
Isaac Glenn scored on a wild pitch. Glenn's heads-up base running put the Majors in front 1-0. Hendrix, however, answered in the bottom of the second by loading the bases. With two outs on the board, the Warriors scored on an RBI single down the right field line to take a 2-1 lead.
The tenacious Majors, however, took advantage of two Hendrix errors in the third to regain the lead. A passed ball and muffed throw placed runners on the corners. From there,
Lee Ogletree singled to score an unearned run while
Drew Wray put the Majors ahead with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Millsaps held a 3-2 lead, but the Warriors again responded – this time with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
An RBI single and RBI double put the Warriors in front 5-3, as the Majors began a comeback attempt to tie the game.
The comeback rally, however, fell short as the Majors eventually fell 7-4. Another sacrifice fly cut the deficit to two runs in the seventh, but the Warriors forced a double play to end the inning. Hendrix added another run in the eighth to secure a 7-4 win and avoid the series sweep.
Isaac Glenn,
Lee Ogletree and
Drew Wray all led in RBIs with one each. Glenn also led in hits with three while
Joseph Stearns,
Logan Patterson,
Cavan Breland and
Lee Ogletree finished close behind with two.
The Majors complete the regular season third in the SAA with an overall record of 19-19 and 12-9 in conference play. Next up for Millsaps Baseball is the first round of the SAA Tournament. The Majors will travel as opening play for the conference tournament is set for Friday, April 22nd.
