Baseball Drops First Game of SAA Tournament to Berry

Birmingham, AL – The Millsaps Baseball team fell to Berry by a score of 9-2 in the opening day of the SAA Conference Tournament.

The Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the fourth and never looked back.  Berry totaled nine runs on 11 hits and two errors while the Majors completed the game with two runs on 10 hits and two errors.  With the loss, the Majors will now face the loser of Friday's second game between Sewanee and Birmingham Southern tomorrow, April 23rd at 3:30 pm.

Millsaps scored their first run of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Isaac Glenn got things started with a leadoff double to left center.  Lee Ogletree then reached first on a fielding error to put the Majors in scoring position.  Freshman Jimmy Fondren then scored Glenn on an RBI single through the left side to put Millsaps on the board.

For pitching totals, starter Greg Matthews pitched five and two thirds innings with six strikeouts while Zack Borne and Daniel Ross combined for the final three innings in relief.

The Majors added their second run of the day in the eighth on a solo homerun via Lee Ogletree – his third of the season.  The Vikings, however, closed out the game in the ninth to advance to the winners bracket in the double elimination tournament.
