Softball's SAA Run ends in Second Day of Conference Tournament

Collierville, TN – The Millsaps Softball team fell to Hendrix in an elimination game during the second day of the SAA Tournament by a score of 4-2.

The Majors advanced to today's contest with Hendrix after defeating Sewanee 10-0 earlier in the morning.  Millsaps took an early lead scoring twice in the third, but the Warriors answered scoring four in the fourth inning – and never looked back.  The Majors' season ends at the conference tournament, as Millsaps Softball completes the year with an overall record of 22-21 (11-9).

Millsaps completed the game with two runs on five hits and two errors while the Warriors finished the game with four runs on seven hits and an error.

Starting pitcher Cassidy DeNoon pitched a complete game striking out two batters and giving up only seven hits.  None of the Warriors runs were earned as Hendrix took advantage of two errors in the fourth.

The Majors took an early lead in the third, 2-0.  MK Bozeman got things started with a leadoff single.  Missy Romero then scored Bozeman on a well-placed RBI single down the right field line.  From there, first baseman Rayne Gravat scored Romero on an RBI single up the middle – giving the Majors an early 2-0 lead.

Hendrix, however, answered with four runs in the fourth to take the lead and eventually earn the 4-2 win.  Rayne Gravat led in hits with two while Missy Romero, Rayner LeBlanc and MK Bozeman recorded one each.  Romero and Gravat also totaled the two RBIs for Millsaps as well.

The Majors complete the season with seven well-deserved all-conference selections.  Five of the All-Conference Award winners will return next season as seniors Missy Romero and Katelyn Murray will graduate after successful careers both on and off the field of play for Millsaps.

With All-Conference Award winners returning and a precedent set from outstanding senior leadership, the Majors will enter the offseason following the successful 2016 campaign with a bright future ahead.
