Molly Tyner Boland Memorial Award
Molly Tyner Boland '14
Each year a member of the Millsaps College softball team is honored with the Molly Tyner Boland Memorial Award. Started in 2017 in memory of Molly Tyner Boland ‘14, a former Millsaps College standout softball player, daughter, teammate, wife, coach, friend, and mentor., this award provides recognition and honor to the most outstanding returning student athlete that exemplifies the altruistic spirit on and off the field that Molly exhibited in her life.
Molly, best known for her smile and ability to be a bright spot on people’s day as well as her athletic prowess and academic excellence, was both a student and mentor on and off the field. The purpose of this award is to recognize a student who, in addition to exhibiting athletic prowess in their craft, best internalizes the bright and loving spirit and academic ambition of Molly during her time at Millsaps.
During her playing career at Millsaps, Boland played in 85 games for the Majors from 2011 to 2014. Best known for ability in the pitcher's circle, Molly threw a combined 284 innings during her career. She amassed 22 wins and totaled 119 strikeouts. In 2013 she led the Majors to a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) championship, and was an all-conference selection in 2014.
