Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Millsaps men's soccer team once again pulled off a last minute goal for a 2-1 victory over Covenant College.
The Majors fought hard to recover from yesterday's loss to Maryville and was able to turn today's match into a successful outing.
Gabriel Ryce scored his second goal of the season and his second game winner with less than two minutes left in the game to finalize the Major victory.
Nico Roth, red-shirt senior, led the Millsaps offensive effort with five shots (four on goal) and one goal scored. Other offensive standouts were
Tore Schutt with three shots (one on goal) and one assist and
Steven Chrobok with one shot on goal.
The Majors out shot the Scots 15-11 and proved to be more accurate with eight shots on goal to their opponents five.
Jonathan Huebbe recorded four saves for the Millsaps defense while allowing only one.
"The guys showed a lot resilience out there after a very average performance yesterday," said head coach Stephen Volz. "They played in a very tough environment and we had some players step up to overcome injuries."
Because of their effort during this weekend's tournament,
Matt Crooker and Gabe Ryce were named to the Covenant Tournament team.
Looking a head to the next game, Coach Voltz wants to focus on getting the guys healthy so that they can increase their competitiveness.
Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Majors will travel to Shreveport, La. to participate in their first conference game of the season against Centenary College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
