Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps men's soccer team forced their second overtime win of the season, defeating the Centenary College 2-1 on the road at the Gents home field. The Tuesday, Sept. 13 matchup was a big victory for the Major and it improved their record to 3-3.
Dimitri Staursky recorded his first goal of the season and led the Majors offense with four shots, one shot on goal, and the Major's game winner. After his team tied the game and forced the overtime, Staursky was able to land a goal off a corner kick from
Tore Schutt just three minutes into overtime for the win.
Steve Chrobok also played well for Millsaps and lent three shots (two on goal) to the offensive effort and recorded the Major's first goal of the game. Chrobok put his team back in the game after being down 1-0 for half of the game. His goal tied the score and forced the overtime.
Other standout Majors were Jonathan Huebbe,
Nico Roth, and
Matt Crooker. Huebbe did an excellent job guarding the goal for the Majors recording six saves with only one goal allowed. Roth and Crooker did well getting passed the Gents defense and tallied two shots on goal each for the effort.
The Millsaps offense as a whole did much better than their opponents with 17 shots to the Gents 10 and 11 corner kicks to their four. The Majors defenders also out performed the Centenary by protecting the goals and only allow six shots on goal to get passed them while the Gents allowed eight.
"We had another slow start and just weren't focus in the beginning," said head coach Steve Volt. "In the second half, the team really got in to the game and dominated possession to force the overtime. Everyone played their part and it showed in the end result."
The Majors will have two days to prepare for their next competition before they will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on William Carey University on Friday, Sept. 16. Friday's kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
