JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College women's volleyball team is set to travel to Mount Berry, Ga. to kick off the 2016 season by participating in the Berry Invitational. During the two- day tournament, the Majors will face three schools: Covenant College, Maryville, and Washington and Lee.
These three matches will give the Majors the opportunity to hone their skills before heading in to conference play.
The Millsaps 2016 roster carries over three starters and one libero from the 2015 season. With half of the starting line-up returning, the Majors are hoping to capitalize on the experience and chemistry and improve on the 14-14 record of the previous year.
Regan Riddle, a junior middle hitter from Montgomery, Ala., will be expected to step up and lead the team offensively. Last season, she ranked third on the team, behind two seniors, in kills with 144 and fifth in total attacks with 399. She also recorded 49 total blocks (2 solo and 47 assist).
Ashley Zamjahn, junior defense specialist, is expected to once again lead the Major defense. Last season, she played in all 28 games and recorded a team high of 537 digs (5.65 per game). She also tallied 135 kills and 496 total attacks.
At setter,
Shelby Marsh, junior from Dallas, Texas, will give be a great asset to the Millsaps offense. Last season, Marsh recorded 397 assist (4.51 assist per game) and contributed 183 digs to the defensive effort.
The Majors will take on Convenat in their first game of the tournament on Friday, Sept. 2. The first serve is set for 5 p.m.
