JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps Majors men's soccer team is looking to improve it 3-4 record when it hosts conference rival Rhodes College on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Millsaps, the defending SAA champions, are looking to start conference play on a good note as they face the Lynx in the first conference match of the season.
Gabriel Rice, freshman midfielder, leads the Majors offense with four points. The Millsaps newcomer has played in all seven games with four starts and has scored two goals. Other offensive standout is
Tore Schutt. Schutt has played in seven games with six starts for three assists and 15 shots (six on goal).
The Major defense is headed by Jonathan Huebbe and
Alfie Miller. Huebbe has played and started in six games and has allowed 11 goals with 20 saves. He currently holds a record of 2-4.
Alfie Miller has played in two games with one start. He has allowed three goals with seven saves and is 1-0 at the goal.
As a team, the Majors have scored seven goals with 36 shots on goal on 83 attempts. They have tallied 36 corner kicks, six assists, and average 11.9 shots-per-game.
Rhodes is currently 2-4-1. The Lynx have scored 12 goals with 32 shots on goal on 73 attempts. They have recorded 38 corner kick, nine assists, and average 10.4 shots-per-game.
Despite their record, Rhodes will not be an easy team to defeat and the team brings with them several heavy hitters.
William Mitchell has played and started in all seven games for Rhodes. He has recorded four goals and one assists for nine points. He has tallied 10 shots with six on goals.
The Lynx defense is led by Patrick Wilkerson. Wilkerson has played in four games with three starts to allow nine goals with 13 saves. He currently holds a 0-2 record.
The Majors last played Rhodes late in the 2015 season and was able to claim a 4-1 win over the the Lynx.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Harper Davis Field located on the campus of Millsaps College. Come out and support Major men's soccer.
