JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps Majors men's soccer team is looking to rebound after a tough weekend featuring back-to-back games against University of Texas at Tyler and Rhodes College. The Majors are working towards improving their record to .500 on Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Belhaven at Harper Davis Field.
Millsaps (4-5), winners of last year's matchup with Belhaven, will be seeking a repeat winning performance against the Blazers. As a team, the Majors have scored ten goals with 47 shots on goal on 103 attempts. They have tallied 46 corner kicks, seven assists, and average 11.4 shots-per-game.Belhaven is currently 2-4-1. The Blazers have scored seven goals on 76 shot attempts. They have recorded 29 corner kicks, five assists, and average 10.9 shots-per-game.
Tore Schutt, last week's SAA Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Majors offense with seven points, two goals and three assists. Alex Bourland and Gabriel Ryce are also tied with Schutt for the team lead in goals this year. Belhaven is led by Nicolas Cornega, who has has played in all seven games and only started in three games. He has recorded three goals on 11 shots.
The Major defense is headed by Johnathan Huebbe and Alfie Miller. Huebbe has started in six games, played in eight and has allowed 14 goals with 28 saves on 71 shots faced. Together, Huebbe and Miller have faced 90 shots and only given up 17 goals. The Blazers defense is led by Josh Gates. Gates has played in four games with three starts to allow nine goals with 20 saves.
