Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College women's soccer team played hard against Louisiana College but was unable to defeat them, ending the game 2-2 after double overtime play.
 
The Majors statistically outperformed the Wildcast tallying 20 shots to their 7 and five corner kicks to their one. Major goalie Olivia Gattuso was credited with five and the Wildcats goalie was credited with nine.
 
Molly Ambrose dominated the Major offense, recording a game high of 10 shots with six shots on goal. She was also responsible for the Majors two goals.
 
In the first few minutes of the game, the Majors easily penetrated the Wildcasts defense but was could not turn the effort into a goal. Just two minutes into the game, Whitney McKee got in the perfect position to score but over-shot and the ball went wide.
 
The Wildcats took the ball back down the field and nearly scored but a Major foul and yellow card prevented their progress. Because the foul was in the box, the Wildcats were given a penalty kick for the slight but Major goalie Olivia Gattuso dove for the save.
 
After 36 minutes of play, the Wildcats scored the first goal of the game giving them a 1-0 advantage over the Majors.
 
With multiple shots taken but none making it to the goal, the Majors closed the first half trailing the Wildcats 1-0.
 
Coming back on the field after the halftime, neither team appeared to have loss any steam. At the 62:09 mark, Major Welch took a corner kick that was headed in by Molly Ambrose. Ambrose first goal of the season tied the game at 1-1.
 
Millsaps grabbed their first lead of the game (2-1) 65:11 into the game. After a foul, Molly Ambrose landed a penalty kick to the right side of the LC goalie to tally her second goal of the game.
 
With just 10 minutes left in regulations, the Wildcats locked the game after a battle at the goal that put two Wildcats against Gattuso. After a few taps back and forth, a LC player was able to sink a goal past the Major goalie to tie the game 2-2.
 
Both teams kept up their intensity for the rest of regulation and two overtimes despite the heat. The shot count went up for both teams but neither team could get past the oppositions defense for a 2-2 ending.
 
The Majors will be back in action Sept. 9 when they travel to the University of Dallas for their first road game. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
