LaGrange, Ga. – Millsaps women's soccer picked up their first win of the season Sunday afternoon at LaGrange, defeating the Panthers 2-0. An own goal in the first half and a score by
Heather Hembree (Watson, La.) propelled the Majors to the victory.
Both teams played evenly in the first half, Millsaps had three shots compared to LaGrange's four. Neither side was able to get anything going for much of the half. That changed in the 39th minute when
Grayston Barron (Little Rock, Ark.) put pressure on the LaGrange defense. That eventually led to an own goal to give Millsaps a 1-0 lead at the half.
Millsaps dominated play in the second half, outshooting the Panthers 9-0. It took just three minutes for the Majors to pad their lead. In the 48th minute
Molly Ambrose (Pensacola, Fla.) found Hembree who scored a breakaway goal for her first of the season to secure the win for the Majors.
Alyssa McCarron (Baton Rouge, La.) got the start at goal and came away with the first shutout of the season, she picked up four saves in the match.
Millsaps will now get ready to play four consecutive SAA matches, starting Friday night as they take on Centre at 5:00 p.m. at Harper Davis Field.
