Zamjahn Reaches 2,000 Career Digs in Sweep of Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) came into Saturday afternoon's match at Oglethorpe just two digs away from reaching two thousand for her career. She finished the day with 19 digs, leading Millsaps to a 3-0 sweep over the Stormy Petrels.

Erica Bennett (Slidell, La.) led all players with 12 kills for the match while Morgan Vincent (Lafayette, La.) was also in double figures with ten kills. Joining Zamjahn in double digit digs was Noelle Coats (San Antonio, Texas), who finished with 14 and Meredith Gates (Broussard, La.) who had ten digs. Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) led the way with 37 assists.

The first set was highly competitive with neither team giving any breathing room early. With the score tied at seven, Millsaps began to pull ahead. The Majors went on an 8-3 run to take a 15-10 lead. Oglethorpe pulled back into it and came as close as a one point, making it 17-16. MIllsaps had enough to hold off the Stormy Petrels with two late kills by Vincent.

Millsaps came out strong in the second set going up 12-5 and 19-10, making it tough for Oglethorpe to get back into it. The Majors went up two sets to none after kills by Bennett, Regan Riddle (Montgomery, Ala.), Vincent and a set-clinching ace by Marsh.

Set three was much of the same with Millsaps going up to a commanding 16-9 lead. After Oglethorpe scored the next four out of five points, Millsaps regained control and closed out the match by going on an 8-3 run.

With the win, Millsaps is now 11-9 on the season and 6-4 in the SAA having won four straight conference matches. The Majors play two matches on Sunday, taking on SAA foe Berry at 12:00 p.m. ET and William Peace at 2:00 p.m. ET in Mount Berry, Georgia.
