JACKSON, Miss. – Before Sunday nights match against Birmingham Southern, the Millsaps women's soccer team celebrated their five seniors.
Olivia Gattuso (Memphis, Tenn.),
Molly Ambrose (Pensacola, Fla.),
Kayleigh Sims (Randolph, Miss.),
Lindsay Redhead (Baton Rouge, La.) and
Jamesia Kenney (Meredian, Miss.) were recognized for their contributions on and off the field.
MIllsaps played tough against Birmingham Southern in the first half. The Majors played strong defense and did not allow a goal until late in the half. But the Panthers broke the scoreless tie in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Birmingham Southern was able to pull ahead. The Panthers scored in the 47th and 65th minute to take a 3-0 lead.
In the 75th minute, Ambrose took the assist from
Riley Fobare (Franklin, Tenn.) and scored the first home goal of the season for the Majors. She took a shot from about 30 yards out and the ball soared over the keepers head to make it a 3-1 BSC lead.
The panthers scored one more time in the 87th minute to secure the victory.
Millsaps will now get ready for the SAA tournament where they will be the number eight seed. The Majors travel to Centre for the first round on Saturday, game time is to be determined.
