Michael Sullivan led the Majors with 13 points and seven rebounds going 5-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore
Saxton Becker was also in double figures with ten off the bench connecting on two threes. Freshman
Joshua Miller and sophomore
Buck Blanz each added nine points while Miller dished out five assists.
Millsaps stayed in the game in the early going of the first half. Sullivan got the Majors on the board with three free throws, then Miller scored on a layup and Blanz knocked down a three to put Millsaps on top 8-7 at the 17:74 mark. Both teams traded buckets until Illinois Wesleyan held onto a slim 17-15 lead when Miller made a layup with 11:07 to go in the first.
The Majors were then held scoreless for the next five minutes as Illinois Wesleyan proceeded to go on a 9-0 run.
James Turner ended the scoring drought with a three to make it a 26-18 deficit with 6:48 to go in the half. After another short run by the Titans, Becker and Blanz sank back-to-back threes in the closing minutes of the half to bring the score to a 36-26 deficit at the break.
The second half started with Millsaps going on an 11-4 run to cut the Titan lead to just five points (40-35) with 15:16 to go. After Illinois Wesleyan extended their lead to 50-37 before the midway point of the half, Millsaps charged back into the game. Miller and Sullivan hit back-to-back shots, then Becker went on a 7-0 run by himself with two at the free throw line, a jumper and a three to bring the score to 52-49 with 9:02 left.
That was as close as the Majors would get. Illinois Wesleyan closed the game by going on a 28-10 run in the final nine minutes to hand Millsaps the 80-59 loss.
Millsaps is now 1-3 on the season. The Majors will have to rebound fast as they finish the Rhodes Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday against Howard Payne at 1:00 p.m.
