JACKSON, Miss. – Freshman
Dia Fortenberry led the Majors with 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Junior
Braxton Thomas also put up a double-digit point total with 11 to go with five rebounds.
Sophomore
Megan Donaldson hit three-threes off the bench to finish with nine points while sophomore
Anna Wilson and freshman
Taelor Manning both scored eight off the bench. Freshman
Anna Thigpen finished with five points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block off the bench.
After falling behind 17-9 with 2:36 to go in the first quarter, the Majors offense came to life as Donaldson made back-to-back threes and Anna Wilson converted an and-one over the final 1:23 to take an 18-17 lead heading to the second.
Donaldson picked up where she left off and started the second with a three. Thomas scored eight points in the quarter going 3-4 from the floor and connected on a three. Dia Fortenberry put up six points in the quarter propelling Millsaps to a 38-33 halftime lead.
Millsaps let their lead slip away in the third. LeTourneau outscored the Majors 22-14 making it a 49-48 Millsaps lead going into the final quarter.
The Yellow Jackets opened the fourth on a 5-2 run taking a 53-50 lead with 7:34 to go. With the Majors down 61-55 with 2:53 left, they closed the gap. Fortenberry got it started with a free throw and Thigpen converted an and-one. Manning then hit a three to give the Majors a 62-61 lead with 2:11 left in the game.
Millsaps took a two-point lead with 1:29 to go, then LeTourneau hit a three to take back the lead and finished the game by hitting their final 5-6 free throws to push them over Millsaps, 70-63
The Majors are now 2-2 on the season. They will be back in action on Sunday for the final day of the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic November 25th where they take on Louisiana College at 3:00 p.m. at the Hangar Dome.
