ATLANTA, Ga. – Two first half goals by Centre proved to be the difference in the Majors 2-1 semifinal loss to the Colonels Friday afternoon. MIllsaps scored a goal in the second half but was unable to keep that momentum going for the rest of the match.
After both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half, Centre broke the scoreless tie in the 19th minute with a goal off of a free kick.
Just four minutes later the Majors had a chance to tie the match.
Alex Bourland headed one toward the goal, but the keeper came away with the save. The second goal for Centre came in the 34th minute after a throw in led to the score.
Sophomore
Gabe Ryce put the Majors on the board in the 64th minute coming off an assist by Bourland. That was all Millsaps could manage as they did not get another shot on goal during the second half.
"I want to thank our seniors
Alex Bourland,
Jan Bergk,
Dimitri Staursky,
John Overton,
Carlos Hoffman,
Mikey Domangue and
Luke Walton", said head coach
Steve Voltz. Centre came out strong and we took a while to find ourselves. The second half was a fantastic effort from our guys and they showed great passion, we came up short against a very good team although we played well in the second half. We will miss the seniors but now it's time to prepare for next year"
