Box Score Jackson, Miss. (Feb. 21, 2017) - Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Millsaps College put together a big fourth-inning that proved to be the difference as the Majors came away with a 6-3 victory in non-conference baseball action over local rival Belhaven College. Senior Seth Trulock (Taylorville, Ill.) and junior Andy Page (Warrenton, Va.) both drove in a pair of runs in the deciding frame for Millsaps.
Belhaven (4-2) got on the board first in the contest when Julyean Urena led off the third with a double to center, moved up on a sacrifice and scored when Ty Dean singled through the left side.
Blazers starer, David Hall, allowed just a pair of hits to Millsaps (4-5) over the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. The Majors picked up a leadoff double from senior Lee Ogletree (Raymond, Miss.), who moved to third on a base-hit by junior Wes Lassere (Thibodaux, La.). Sophomore Jimmy Fondren (Pascagoula, Miss.) then tied the game with a sac fly to right.
Another single and a passed ball put runners on second and third for senior Seth Trulock (Taylorville, Ill.), who delivered a single up the middle to put the Majors on top, 3-1. After a walk again put a pair aboard, Page doubled to the wall in right center to plate both runners for a 5-1 lead.
Belhaven closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth, drawing three walks to load the bases. With one away, Terrell Hodges singled to left to score a pair and make it a two-run game.
That was as close as the Blazers would get, however, as the Millsaps bullpen closed out the win for the Majors. Junior Jacob Mardick (The Woodlands, Texas) came on in the fifth and gave up the two-run single to Hodges, but allowed little else as he gave up three hits and struck out seven in four innings to pick up the win. Sophomore Barrett Kaul (Houston, Texas) came on in the ninth, striking out a pair as he set down Belhaven in order to record his first save of the season.
Millsaps tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when the Majors took advantage of a Blazers error. With two outs and Logan Patterson first, Page lofted a fly to left that was misplayed allowing Patter to score.
Millsaps will return to the field on Friday when the Majors will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11 a.m. in Memphis.
