Baseball goes 2-1 in weekend series against Huntingdon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 LaGrange, GA – The Millsaps Baseball team open up their season by going 2-1 in the weekend series at Huntingdon College.

Millsaps opened up the weekend on Friday with a demanding 8-0 victory over Huntingdon. In the second inning, a hit by Cavan Breland brought both Jimmy Fondren and Lee Ogletree in for runs followed by Callaway on the next at-bat. After their strong second inning, the Majors never looked back, scoring five more runs and shutting out Huntingdon.

Individually, Ogletree, Fondren, and Breland all had two runs, with Andy Page and Connor Woodall combining for Millsaps' other two runs. Breland brought three runners home for three RBIs and as a team the Majors had 11 hits on 38 at-bats.

The second game wasn't as favorable for the Majors, as they lost to Huntingdon 4-6.

Millsaps got off to another strong start in the second game, jumping up on Huntingdon 2-0. However, strong fifth and seventh innings by the Hawks lifted them above the Majors 6-3 and Millsaps was never able to recover.

In the second game, the Majors only had six hits on 33 at-bats, led by Woodall with two. Woodall also led all Majors with two runs and an RBI. Fondren brought two more runners home as well.

In the third game, the Majors took the victory 12-3.

After a slow start, Millsaps found themselves down to the Hawks 3-1 after five innings. Then, in the sixth and seventh innings, the Majors scored 11 straight runs to take home a big victory and the best-of-3 series win over Huntingdon. Wes Lessere led all Majors with three runs, two hits, and two RBIs. Page, Woodall, Ogletree, Fondren, Jon Dale Dieckman, and Logan Patterson all logged hits.

Page, Woodall, Lessere, Patrick Grumbley, Ogletree, Fondren, Dieckman, Callaway, and Breland all scored runs in the third match.
