Millsaps Drops Doubleheader to #3 Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. (Apr. 14, 2017) - Third ranked Berry College scored two late runs to come back and beat Millsaps, 4-3 in the first game of their softball doubleheader. In the second game, steady scoring on offense by the Berry Vikings led them past the Majors 10-3.

Game one, Berry got on the board first, scoring on an error to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Things were slow offensively for both teams until Katlin Seger of Berry doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning to drive another runner home.

Millsaps was unable to respond until they had their biggest inning of the afternoon at the top of the sixth. Senior Kat Romero (Lafayette, La.) and senior Kayla Davidson (Slaughter, La.) kicked things off, singling to start the inning. Next, Romero scored off an error by the first baseman to close the gap to 1-2. Then, senior Rayne Gravat (Franklin, Tenn.) drove a runner in on a sacrifice bunt to knot the game up at 2-2. Senior Rayner LeBlanc (New Iberia, La.) then hit a single through the left side to bring home pinch runner junior Cassidy Hendrix (Brownsville, Tenn.) and give the Majors their first lead of the day, 3-2.

Heading to the bottom of the sixth up 3-2, Elizabeth Federici homered to tie the game back up 3-3. Millsaps went 3 up, 3 down in the top of the seventh. At the bottom of the seventh with the game on the line, a double by Sarah Moore drove a runner in for the game, and Berry won 4-3.

In the second game, Berry scored one run in both of the first two innings. A single by LeBlanc coupled with an error by Berry drove two runners in for the Majors to put the score at 2-2 after three innings. After another run scored in the bottom of the third, Berry had a big fourth inning, scoring three runs to give them a 5-2 lead. In the sixth inning, two doubles by Berry's Seger and Lauren Evans drove two runners in a piece. After not responding in the seventh inning, Berry won the game, 10-3.
