Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Comes up Short Against Berry

JACKSON, Miss. – Volleyball made a comeback effort in the third set against Berry, but eventually came up short Saturday afternoon, dropping the match 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 23-25).

Mckenzi Petricko (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the match offensively with ten kills, she was the only Major in double figures. Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) and Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) were in double figures in digs. Zamjahn finished with 13 digs while Marsh had ten for the match and totaled 15 assists.

The first set was back-and-forth in the early stages. MIllsaps started off strong and and went up on Berry 5-1. The Vikings fought back and tied things up at ten and neither team was able to pull away in the middle of the set. Berry finally took control going up 19-15 and scoring the last six out of seven points to take the set.

It was all Berry in the second set, the Vikings got out to an 18-5 lead and kept the foot on the gas pedal. Millsaps was only able to score 13 points in the set, falling 25-13

Millsaps fought hard to keep things close in the third set. After Berry looked to be in control with a 19-11 lead, the Majors went on a 6-0 run with a spark from freshman Noelle Coats (San Antonio, Texas) that forced Berry to take a timeout. With the Vikings on top 21-20, Berry closed things out by outscoring Millsaps 4-3 to take the set and the match.

With the loss, the Majors are now 3-6 on the season and 0-2 in SAA play. They are back in action on Sunday for another SAA game against Oglethorpe at the Hangar Dome at 12:00 p.m.
