JACKSON, Miss. – MIllsaps had a big day all around Sunday afternoon in their 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Oglethorpe.
Mckenzi Petricko (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the team offensively with ten kills while
Payton Passantino (Plaquemine, La.) finished with eight kills and 14 digs and
Regan Riddle (Montgomery, Ala.) totaled seven kills.
To go along with Passantino defensively,
Ashley Zamjahn once again led the team with 15 digs and
Presley Stoltzfus (Baton Rouge, La.) finished the day with nine.
Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) had the match high with 19 assists while
Gracie Bellnap (Kingwood, Texas) had 13.
MIllsaps dominated the first set. The Majors set the tone by scoring the first seven points and eventually going up 15-4 on Oglethorpe. MIllsaps closed out the set on a high note by scoring the final eight points and ending it with back-to-back kills by Passantino.
Oglethorpe took an early lead in the second set going up 10-6. After a Millsaps timeout, the Majors began to make a run to take the lead. Millsaps went on a 10-4 run to take a 20-16 lead and put the set out of reach. The Majors then scored the next five out of seven points highlighted by two aces from Stoltzfus.
The third set went down to the wire until the end. With Millsaps on top 18-16, they put things out of reach by scoring the next seven out of eight points and ending it with a kill from Petricko to take the set and the match.
MIllsaps is now 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in SAA play. The Majors continue their season with a non-conference match against Alcorn State on Tuesday at the Hangar Dome, game time is at 6:00 p.m.
