JACKSON, Miss. – Despite shooting seven shots on goal, Millsaps could not put one in the back of the net Sunday night. The Majors ended up falling 5-0 to Mississippi Valley State University.
Junior
Grayston Barron (Little Rock, Ark.) led the team offensively with four shots and three on goal, while senior
Molly Ambrose (Pensacola, Fla.) finished the match with three shots on goal. Sophomore
Kimberly Manley (Madison, Ala.) also had a shot on goal early in the game.
MIllsaps had three opportunities to score the first goal of the game in the first minute. After a corner kick by freshman
Aimee Leachman, Barron's shot hit the post and shots by Ambrose and Manley were both saved by the goalkeeper.
MVSU took control of the match in the first half and finished the first half with three goals to take a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
The Devilettes scored two more goals in the second half to bring the score to its final of 5-0. Senior
Olivia Gattuso (Memphis, Tenn.) finished the day with six saves in goal.
Millsaps is back at home on Friday for its first SAA match of the season, the Majors host Rhodes at 7:00 p.m. at Harper Davis Field.
