JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps volleyball made a statement Tuesday night by defeating Division-I Alcorn State in four sets (25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 25-9).

Mckenzi Petricko (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the night with a match high ten kills while Morgan Vincent (Lafayette, La.) had nine for the match. Erica Bennett (Slidell, La.) tallied six kills and Payton Passantino (Plaquemine, La.) had a solid night as well, finishing with five kills and seven digs.

Millsaps looked sharp defensively, Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) led the Majors with 23 digs. The setters did their jobs as well, Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) finished with 14 assists and 13 digs and Gracie Bellnap (Kingwood, Texas) had 13 assists and 12 digs on the night.

Both teams were neck-and-neck in the first set, Millsaps started by going up 6-2. Alcorn regained their composer and was able to bring the score to 13-14 with Millsaps still on top. The Majors then caught fire and went on a 4-0 run that forced Alcorn to take a timeout. When played resumed, Alcorn scored just once before Millsaps ended the set by scoring the final seven points, ending it with back-to-back kills by Vincent.

After a tight second set that Alcorn took 25-22, Millsaps was able to win the third. The Majors trailed 13-11 in the middle of the set when Petricko got a kill and started a run. Millsaps outscored Alcorn 14-5 to win the third set.

The fourth set was dominated by the Majors who took it 25-9 with a .370 hitting percentage compared to Alcorns -.125.

With the win MIllsaps is now 5-6 on the season. The Majors are back in action on Saturday for their first road SAA match at Centre, game time is at 12:00 p.m.
