Millsaps Falters Against SAA Opponent Centre

Danville, Ky. – In its fourth SAA conference match of the season, the Millsaps volleyball team lost at Centre Saturday afternoon 3-1 (28-26, 13-25, 19-25, 15-25).

Millsaps had some offensive production from senior Regan Riddle (Montgomery, Ala.) and sophomore Payton Passantino (Plaquemine, La.), who both led all players with nine kills. Senior Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) finished with 13 digs while seniors Madelyn Pearce (Alabaster, Ala.) and Presley Stoltzfus (Baton Rouge, La.) had eight digs each. Pearce also tallied nine assists and Senior Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) led the team with 15 assists.

Millsaps took the first set from the Colonels 28-26. Centre led by a small margin for most of the set and had an 18-15 lead moving into the later stages. The Majors then went on a 5-0 run to take a 20-18 lead and gain momentum. Centre fought their way back into it and tied things at 25, forcing extra points. After both teams scored a point, Millsaps finished off the first set with kills from Passantino and Riddle.

The final three sets did not go the way Millsaps had planned. The Majors scored he first point of the second set but then Centre took control to tie the match at 1-1.

In the third set, Centre was in control for the most part. It took a late comeback for Millsaps to claw back into it but they eventually came up short. Centre then took the fourth set 25-15 to win the match.

Millsaps drops to 5-7 on the season and 1-3 in SAA play. The Majors continue their season on Sunday when they will play two matches, they first take on SAA opponent Sewanee at 11:00 a.m. and then Huntingdon at 1:00 p.m.
