Majors Get Swept by Blazers

JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps volleyball took a trip across the street to play at Belhaven Tuesday night and ended up falling in three straight sets (17-25, 21-25, 19-25).

Mckenzi Petricko (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the night with a team high seven kills while Regan Riddle (Montgomery, Ala.) had six for the match. Ashley Zamjahn (Harahan, La.) led the Majors with 13 digs, joining her in double figures was Payton Passantino (Plaquemine, La.), who finished with ten digs. Shelby Marsh (Dallas, Texas) led the team with 13 assists and tallied six digs as well.

Millsaps led the first set in its early stages taking a 4-2 lead. Belhaven then took over and responded by going on an 8-3 run to put them ahead 12-5. The Majors fought hard in the middle of the set and closed to gap to three points, but it was not enough as the Blazers outscored Millsaps 11-6 to take the first set.

Again the Majors came out of the gates fast to start the second set. Millsaps took an 8-3 lead with which included two kills by Jessie Allen (Montgomery, Ala.). Belhaven then battled back and eventually tied things up at 12. Both teams gave no breathing room as they traded points until late in the set. The Blazers took over and closed things out again by going on an 11-6 run to go up two sets to none.

The third set was tightly contested throughout. With Belhaven on top 16-15, the Blazers outscored Millsaps nine to four to get the win.
