CONWAY, Ark. – It took extra time for MIllsaps to take down Hendrix Friday night to get their first conference win of the season.
Brett Judd's (Monroe, La.) game winning goal snapped the Majors three game losing streak and put them back above .500 for the season.
MIllsaps had not scored in the first half in their previous three matches. The Majors looked to change that, in the third minute
Alex Bourland (Charleston, S.C.) took it himself and dribbled about 20 yards and booted one past the keeper.
The majors had plenty of opportunities to extend their lead in the first but came up empty each time. Hendrix took advantage of a chance right before halftime in the 42nd minute and tied things up with a goal off a free kick.
MIllsaps controlled the pace in the second, outshooting the Warriors 7-1 and 3-1 on goal in the half. Neither team was able to put the ball in the back of the net, sending the match into overtime.
It did not take long in overtime for Millsaps to secure the victory. In the 87th minute,
Mikey Domangue (Mandeville, La.) set up Judd who then raced past his defender, cut inside and beat the keeper near post to give the majors the 2-1 win.
"I'm thrilled for the guys that they got a conference win on the road, Hendrix played well and they were efficient". Said head coach
Steve Voltz, "We scored early and had many chances, the effort has been there but we have to be more efficient. We hope this brings us a boost of confidence going forward. I thought the guys that stepped in did a great job like
Colton Townsell (Conway, Ark.),
Christian Zamiela (Stuart, Fla.) and Mikey".
With the win Millsaps improves to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in SAA play. The Majors have a week off before they return home next Friday for an SAA match against Centre, game time is at 7:30 p.m.
