JACKSON, Miss. – Playing against the number two team in the SAA standings, the Millsaps women's basketball team escaped a late comeback attempt by Hendrix, 62-59 Sunday afternoon. Millsaps improves to 5-11 and 2-3 in the conference, while Hendrix falls to 11-5 and 3-2 in the SAA.

Braxton Thomas posted season highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Freshman
Dia Fortenberry came away with 16 points, five steals and three rebounds, and sophomore
Anna Wilson finished with a season high 11 points on 4-5 shooting. Junior
Amber Newell came off the bench to score five points, grab seven rebounds and block two shots.
An energized Millsaps squad busted out to a quick 7-0 lead and kept up the defensive intensity for the rest of the quarter. The Majors defense gave up just two field goals in the first, holding the Warriors to eight points. Millsaps finished the quarter on a 14-8 run to take a 21-8 lead into the second.
Back-to-back threes by Hendrix cut the Majors lead to 25-18 with 3:24 to go in the second.
Millicent Butler answered with a three to put the Millsaps back up by ten. The Warriors did not allow Millsaps to score for the rest of the half and scored four over the final two minutes to make it 28-22 Millsaps at the break.
Hendrix cut the lead to 30-26 with 8:09 left in the third. Millsaps kicked it into gear and went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to bring their lead to 42-26 with 4:30 to go in the third. Hendrix flipped the script and closed the quarter on a 10-3 run to make it 45-36 at the end of three.
Millsaps looked to be on control in the final minutes as they held onto a 56-45 lead with 1:18 left. Hendrix then clamped down on defense and went on a 14-5 run to pull the score to 61-59 with 11 seconds to go. Fortenberry made a free throw to make it a three-point game and a last second three by Hendrix came up short for the Majors to escape with the win.
Millsaps continues their season at home on Friday against Oglethorpe for a 6:00 p.m. start.
