Women’s Hoops Blows Past Berry, 68-43

JACKSON, Miss. – A strong first half to propelled the Millsaps women's basketball team over Berry, 68-43 Sunday afternoon at the Hangar Dome. Millsaps improves to 6-12 on the season and moves ahead of Berry in SAA standings with a 3-4 conference record, while Berry falls to 7-10 and 2-5 in the SAA.

Sophomore Megan Donaldson knocked down five three pointers in the first half, finishing with 15 points to lead the Majors in scoring. Sophomore Caroline Guilbeau was also in double figures with ten points off the bench. Millsaps got contributions from everyone, junior Rebecca Harris had nine points and six rebounds off the bench while juniors Braxton ThomasMillicent Butler and sophomore Anna Wilson each added seven points. Wilson also pulled down eight rebounds.

It took over four minutes for the Majors to find their groove on offense. Butler's layup with 6:30 in the first gave Millsaps a 4-3 lead that they would never surrender for the rest of the game. Millsaps went on an 18-8 run led by Donaldson's four long balls in that span to take a 20-11 lead with 2:51 left in the quarter. Millsaps used that momentum to take an 11-point lead at the end of one.

The offense continued to come in bunches for the Majors in the second. Millsaps outscored the Vikings 18-3 over the first nine minutes of the quarter, extending their lead to 44-18. The Majors hit four threes in the quarter and got their final three points when Montori Weber was fouled taking a three and made all three from the line. Millsaps outscored Berry 21-8 in the second, taking a 47-23 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was much more competitive as both teams traded buckets. Millsaps once again played strong defense, limiting Berry to eight points to take a 60-31 lead into the final quarter. The Majors would not let Berry back into the game in the final minutes, Taelor Manning's three with three minutes left ended the game on a high note.

Millsaps will hit the road next, the Majors head to Atlanta to take on Oglethorpe for the second meeting between the teams this season. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
