ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior
Michael Sullivan led the Majors with 19 points as Millsaps went on the road and handed Oglethorpe University their second straight SAA loss on Friday night. With tonight's win the Majors improve to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Stormy Petrels fall to 12-7 with a 6-2 mark inside the SAA.
Senior
Sam Kohnke joined Sullivan as the only other Millsaps player in double-digits. Kohnke was 5-8 from the field, and connected on both of his attempts from beyond the three-point line to finish the contest with 12 points. Millsaps received 33 points off the bench, as the end-result was never in doubt most of the evening.
The Majors ran out to an early 13-2 lead thanks in part to a pair of layups from freshman
Matt Owens. Millsaps led by as many as 18 points in the first-half, before finally taking a 36-23 lead to the halftime locker room. The tough Majors defense held Oglethorpe to just 27.3% shooting from the field in the first twenty minutes of action.
The second half was all Millsaps as Oglethorpe never got to within ten points, and was held to an even worse 26.9 shooting percentage in the final half. Sullivan absolutely caught fire in the second period as he scored 17 of his team-high 19 points. He connected on five three-pointers, and was a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe.
In the winning effort, sophomore
James Turner pulled down 10 boards to led the Majors in the rebounding category, and freshman
Joshua Miller dished out a team-high 5 assists.
Next up, the Millsaps looks to build on the win as they travel to Berry on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off in the SAA matchup is set for 2:00pm CST.
