SEWANEE, Tenn. – Playing in their fifth consecutive game away from home, the Millsaps men's basketball team came up short at Sewanee, 67-52 Friday night. The Majors are now 3-10 overall and 0-2 in the SAA while the Tigers improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Junior
Michael Sullivan finished with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal, while freshman
Joshua Miller came off the bench and also put up 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
The Majors fell behind 11-2 in the first five minutes of the game.
Sam Kohnke drilled a three and a basket by
Buck Blanz kept Millsaps within striking distance, making it a 14-7 deficit with 12:13 to go in the first half. Sewanee pulled away using a 16-6 run to its advantage to take a 30-13 lead with 5:21 to go. After a Millsaps timeout, the Majors closed out the half on an 11-5 run that was capped off with a three at the buzzer by Sullivan to cut the Tiger lead to 35-24 at the break.
Kohnke started the second half with a long ball to make it just an eight point game. After Sewanee extended their lead to 41-27 with 16:55 to go, Millsaps racked off nine straight points with buckets by
Tysin Meads,
Matt Owens and a three from Miller to cut it to 41-36 with 15:06 left in the game.
Both sides then traded baskets and Millsaps was unable to make up any ground. Sullivan completed a four-point play with 7:56 to go to make it a 55-46 deficit, but that was as close as the Majors would get. Sewanee closed the game on a 12-6 run to fend off Millsaps.
