Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Drops Road Doubleheader

DANVILLE, Ky.—The Millsaps volleyball team was in action Saturday as they played back-to-back matches on the road. They continued SAA play with a match against Centre before taking on Hanover on Centre's court. The Majors weren't able to string together any game wins as they dropped both matches, 3-0.

Match One

The Majors and Colonels are no strangers, having just faced off two weeks ago in Jackson. This time, however, the Majors weren't able to take any games from Centre as the Colonels sent Millsaps to their 4th SAA loss in their last 5 matches.

In the first set, the Majors used a couple of 4-0 runs, between Colonel points, to build an 11-7 lead but couldn't hold onto it as Centre used a big run of their own to lead at 21-18. An error and a Kayleigh Aicklen ace brought the game to 21-20, but the Colonels shut the door on a comeback and took game 1, 25-22.

Centre came out firing in game 2, jumping ahead 7-0 before a Cailey Ness kill put the Majors on the board. The Colonels lurched ahead and was serving for the game, at 24-19, but Millsaps refused to quit. The Majors put together a 5-0 run, highlighted by a pair of Centre errors, kills by Maddie Grace McCurdy, Noelle Coats and a block from Emily Herring and McKenzi Petricko to tie the game at 24. The two team traded points in the extra time until Centre won 2 straight points to take game 2, 27-25.

The third game was close as well, with Centre pulling ahead, 16-13. But the Majors fell flat late and would only score 3 more points as Centre took the game, 25-16, and the match.

Millsaps was led by Morgan Vincent with 8 kills.

Match Two

The afternoon match saw Millsaps square off with Hanover for the first time since 2010. After a tough loss to Centre to start the day, the Majors couldn't get anything going as they fell in straight sets to the Panthers.

The first game was close but Hanover pulled away late to take it 25-17. Game two never got going for Millsaps as the Panthers won handily, 25-10. Millsaps tried to make a run in game three, but Hanover was just too much as they took the final set, 25-22, and the match.

The Majors were led by McCurdy with 9 kills and 13 digs. Coats had 4 blocks to bolster the defense.

The losses send the Majors to 7-12 overall and 2-8 in the SAA.

What's Next?

The Majors will be back in action Sunday as they travel to Sewanee, Tennessee to take on the Tigers. The match starts at noon.
