SEWANEE, Tenn.—The offensive woes continued Sunday for the Millsaps volleyball team as they fell to Sewanee, 3-0, in Tennessee.
The Tigers put their foot on the gas from the get-go, starting game one on a 5-0 run before a ball handling error gave the Majors their first point. Millsaps was able to pull within 6, at 12-6, but would be outscored 13-5 the rest of the way as Sewanee took the first set, 25-11.
The second set was much more competitive for Millsaps, who used a 3-0 run to tie things at 13, thanks to back-to-back kills by
Maddie Grace McCurdy and a Tiger error. But Sewanee pulled ahead with a 5-0 run of their own and went on to win game 2, 25-17.
The final game started much like the second set, with the teams trading points back and forth. But with the game tied at 9, Sewanee used a 10-2 run to pull ahead and not look back. They scored the final 6 points of the game to take the set, 25-13, and the match.
Offensively, the Majors were led by McCurdy's 8 kills and 2 blocks and
Morgan Vincent's 8 kills.
Gracie Bellnap added 16 assists. Defensively,
Emily Herring led the way with 4 blocks while
Payton Passantino had 15 digs.
The loss send the Majors to 7-13 overall and 2-9 in the SAA.
