SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College women's soccer team wrapped up their weekend road trip by taking on the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
Sewanee scored a late 1st half goal to grab a 1-0 lead at halftime, and added a 2nd half insurance goal to capture the 2-0 win.
How It Happened
The Millsaps offense had a pair of quality looks early on in the 1st half, but unfortunately a 16th minute shot from
Riley Fobare and a 17th minute shot from
Grayston Barron were both saved by the Sewanee keeper.
Just over ten minutes later the Majors again had another quality look at goal, but yet again the Tigers keeper was there to make the save on a shot by Barron and keep Millsaps off the scoreboard.
Unfortunately, Sewanee's offense broke through late in the half with a goal in the 39th minute, and took that 1-0 lead to the halftime locker room.
The Tigers used that momentum and came out of the break aggressive. They earned a corner kick in the 59th minute, and converted on the opportunity for a goal to push their lead out to 2-0.
Barron had another shot on goal just a few minutes later, but unfortunately Sewanee's keeper corralled the shot for a save to preserve their shutout.
Fobare had the only other shot of the game for the Majors in the 87th minute, but it was blocked.
Defensively,
Alyssa McCarron finished with another double-digit save total in goal for Millsaps. Her 10 saves increase her season total to a conference-leading 103 on the year.
What's Next?
Millsaps will again be on the road this weekend for the final match of the 2018 regular season. The Majors will travel to Alabama to take on Birmingham Southern in a SAA matchup. Saturday's kickoff is set for 4:30pm.
