BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- On Saturday the Millsaps College women's socer team made the short trip to Birmingham Southern College for the final regular season match of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) schedule.
The match was tied 0-0 at halftime, and looked to be heading towards overtime until the Panthers scored in the 87th minute and held on for the 1-0 win.
How It Happened
Despite being shutout on the scoreboard, the Millsaps offense had arguably one of their better games of the season tonight. The Majors totaled 15 shots, 8 of which were on goal, both of which are highs in conference play this season for Millsaps.
The first half was back and forth with both teams trading offensive chances, but neither able to get a score.
Grace Babin and
Riley Fobare both had shots on goal for the Majors in the half.
The second 45 minutes mirrored the first. The Panthers and Majors traded opportunities, but for the majority of the time the defenses held strong.
Unfortunately, in the 87th minute BSC broke through with the only goal of the game.
Offensively,
Grayston Barron led the way for Millsaps with 6 shots, 4 of which were on frame. Fobare, Babin and
Heather Hembree also had looks at goal for the Majors.
Defensively,
Maddie Moore played all 90 minutes at keeper and recorded 10 saves in the contest.
