Women's Soccer Set for SAA Tournament Quarterfinal at Centre

JACKSON, Miss. -- The 2018 Southern Athletic Association Tournament gets underway this weekend with four quarterfinal matches. The Millsaps College Majors will be taking on the No. 1 seed Centre College Colonels. 

This will be the second trip to Danville, Kentucky in a matter of three weeks for Millsaps. Back on October 13th the Majors traveled to take on the Colonels, who were then the No. 9 team in the country, and fell by a final score of 5-0. 

Heading into this weekend's matchup Centre is the No. 1 seed in the SAA Tournament, and they are ranked as the No. 6 team in the nation according the most recent top-25 poll. 

2018 Season Recap

Millsaps enters the SAA Tournament as the No. 8 seed after posting a 2-12-2 overall record and a 0-7 SAA mark in the regular season. They scored a pair of 1-0 wins over the Misssissippi University for Women and Judson College. They also earned a pair of draws against Belhaven University and LaGrange College to begin the year. 

Sophomore keeper Alyssa McCarron anchors the Millsaps defensive back line. Despite missing a few games due to injury, she leads the SAA in saves with 103. More impressively, her save percentage of .817 ranks fourth best in the league. McCarron has one SAA Defensive Player of the Week award under her belt this year.

Offensively, Riley Fobare leads the team with four goals scored. She netted the game-winning goal in the Majors 1-0 win over Judson College on September 19th. Grace Babin has the other goal this season for the Majors. Her score on September 11th against the Mississippi University for Women was also the game-winner.  

Emma Dotson, Emily Gager, Hannah Johnson and Annakatharine Rowland all have assists this season for Millsaps.

This Weekend's Opponent

Saturday, October 27th, 12:00pm CT, No. 6 Centre College (16-0, 7-0)


The Colonels enter this weekend's quarterfinal match unbeaten on the year. Centre last allowed a goal in a 3-1 win over Mount St. Joseph on September 16th. 

Key Players for the Colonels
Junior forward Alana Hughes is the catalyst for the Centre offense. She leads the SAA in goals scored (13) and assists (7). Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Nelson has added 7 goals, while freshman defender Cameron Zak has scored 5.

Defensively, sophomore keeper Sarah Stodghill has played over 1,200 minutes in goal this year. She has allowed just 3 goals for a 0.21 goals against average, and has made 22 saves for a .880 saves percentage. The Colonel defense has made things relatively easy for her however, as Centre only surrendered 5 shot attempts inside SAA play.
