JACKSON, Miss. -- The Millsaps College women's soccer team jumped back into Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday night by welcoming the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University to Harper Davis Field.
The hard-fought match was tied 0-0 at halftime, but an Oglethorpe goal in the 56th minute proved to be the difference in their 1-0 win.
How It Happened
The Majors offense came out aggressive early on in the match and earned a pair of corner kicks. Millsaps had an excellent look at goal off of the first one but the header from
Sarah Rimmer sailed just over the crossbar.
On the defenisve end the Majors did a good job of shutting down the Stormy Petrel attack in the first half.
Alyssa McCarron was a strong anchor to the defensive backline as she recorded 7 saves in the first 45 minutes.
After first half ended with the match tied at 0-0, Oglethorpe came out and got a goal in the 56th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Millsaps offense had a couple of chances in the second half, the best of which came off the foot of
Riley Fobare late in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, the Oglethorpe keeper was there to make the save and preserve their 1-0 shutout win.
What's Next?
Millsaps will play their final home match of the 2018 season on Sunday when they host Berry College in SAA action. Seniors,
Grayston Barron,
Sarah Rimmer and
Molly Swinney will be honored prior to the 12:00pm kickoff.
