JACKSON, Miss. -- Despite having a little less than a month left in their schedule, the Millsaps College women's soccer team will play their final home matches of the 2018 regular season this weekend.
Last Week
The Majors dropped a pair of close matches last week, 2-0 to Hendrix College on Family Weekend, and 1-0 to East Texas Baptist University in non-conference action on Monday.Â
Today: Oglethorpe University (3-8, 0-2 SAA), 5:00pm, Harper Davis Field
The Stormy Petrels enter into this weekend's matchup on a seven-game losing streak. Oglethorpe's last win came back on September 8th, 3-0 over LaGrange College.Â
LaGrange is the one common non-conference opponent the Stormy Petrels and Majors share this season. Millsaps played to a 0-0 draw with the Panthers in the second match of the 2018 season.
Key Players for the Stormy Petrels
Oglethorpe's offense is a well-balanced attack. Four different players: Grace Henderson, Jalisa Kassam, Tress Southard and Kayla Trice all share the team-lead with two goals each. Kassam and Maddie Cornell lead the way with a pair of assists to their credit.Â
Defensively, Lindsey Bolas has played the vast majority of the minutes in goal. She has allowed 17 goals and recorded 46 saves.Â
Sunday: Berry College (5-4-1, 1-2 SAA), 12:00pm, Harper Davis Field
On Sunday the Majors will celebrate Senior Day and the careers of
Grayston Barron,
Sarah Rimmer and
Molly Swinney prior to kickoff.Â
The Vikings will play Birmingham Southern tonight before traveling to Jackson for Sunday's match. Berry is 5-4-1 on the year and has scored wins in four out of their last six matches.Â
Key Players for the Vikings
Olivia Nye is the leading goal-scorer for Berry with three goals on the year. Vanessa Belanger and Haley Stewart have each added a pair of scores as well.Â
Defensively, Alyssa Stevens is the starter in goal for Berry. She has only allowed 7 goals this season and has made 35 saves.Â
