JACKSON, Miss. -- It was the final home match of the 2018 season for the Millsaps College men's soccer team on Sunday. The Majors honored seniors:
Curtis McClain,
Nathaniel Edwards,
Connor Dunne,
Christian Zamiela,
Tristan Carrey,
Mikel Gomez Ramos and
Henry Brown prior to the start of the match.
The visiting Berry College Vikings got out to a 2-0 lead at halftime, and sealed the match with three second-half goals to come away with the 5-0 win.
The Majors offense had three looks at goal in the first 45 minutes, unfortunately they were unable to find the back of the net for goals. The best look, and only shot on goal all afternoon, came from
Brett Judd in the 15th minute, but the Vikings keeper was there for the save.
Berry opened the scoring with a goal in the 17th minute, and quickly capitalized on their momentum for a second goal in the 20th minute.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Millsaps came out for the second half aggressive, but the Vikings quickly turned things around for a goal in the 50th minute to push their lead out to 3-0. Berry ended all hopes of a Millsaps comeback with goals in the 56th and 68th minutes.
As the clock wound down, both coaches emptied their benches and Berry held on for the 5-0 win.
What the Coach Said
"Thank you to our seniors," Millsaps head coach
Steve Voltz said. "Curtis, Nat, Connor, Christian, Tristan, Mikel and Henry have all meant a great deal to the soccer program here at Millsaps College. It is a shame we could not end their home careers on a higher note, but we are already hard at work preparing for this weekend's opponents."
